“It Works for Me”: John Lynn, Founder, HealthcareScene.com

By January 7, 2015April 12th, 2019No Comments

Everyone has their own best practices and tools for getting the job done. Some include holding onto their iPhone for dear life or learning how to stay organized even during the chaotic times. Our recurring segment “It Works for Me” features business professionals sharing their secrets on how they get the job done. Next up is John Lynn, founder of HealthcareScene.com.

Company Name: HealthcareScene.com

Job Title: Founder

Where do you live? Las Vegas, NV

Where do you work? Las Vegas, NV

What is your office environment like? I have a home office. In fact, I have two computer setups with dual monitors upstairs (day shift) and downstairs (night shift). If you don’t use dual monitors and spend on a comfortable chair, you’re missing out!

What technology do you use at work? I use two Windows 7 desktops with dual monitors for the majority of my work. I also have a Google Chromebook for when I travel. The Chromebook’s 10 hour battery life and 3 second boot and shut down times have changed my life working on a laptop while I travel. We have 3 iPads, a Kindle Fire and a Windows 8 Tablet, but I rarely use them for work. I never seem to ply them away from my kids.

My cell phone is a Samsung S5 (fake gold plated because I’m fancy like that).

What technology do you use at home? Same as work.

On a scale of 1 (never) to 10 (always), how often are you connected to your smartphone? That’s a tricky question since I almost never have my smartphone by me when I’m at work. I only really use my smartphone when I leave the house. Otherwise, when I’m at home my smartphone just sits on the counter charging. When I’m at home I use Google Voice to text from my computer and Google Hangouts to answer my cell phone. I’d say maybe a 2.

What is your favorite organizational tool? Email! I’m a 0 inbox guy, so my email is my to-do list. I literally send myself an email when I want to remind myself to do something. Of course, the reality of 0 inbox is that I usually have between 10-20 things in my email at one time. The number of emails in my inbox helps me calibrate how I should respond to the remaining emails.

The key to 0 inbox is not being afraid to say no when someone emails you something you don’t want to do.

What is the latest website/app/tool you are obsessed with at the moment? I just adore dlvr.it. It’s saved me thousands of hours and seeing the stats report from it gives me a great insight on how my blog posts are doing.

Can you recommend a book? I don’t read books much, but love a good biography. I recently read Steve Jobs and learned a lot. #nerd

What’s your best time management tip? Don’t be afraid to make decisions. Indecision costs so much time.

What’s the strangest thing in your office? My Dan Marino signed Football (Yes, I’m a dolphins fan), next to my Dancing with the Stars Barbie (Yes, I’m a DWTS fan).

John also runs the Healthcare IT Marketing and PR Conference (HITMC.com), the first conference focusing exclusively on healthcare B2B marketing. HITMC will be held on May 7-8, 2015 in Las Vegas. Visit the website to learn more and reserve your spot!
