Everyone has their own best practices and tools for getting the job done. Some include holding onto their iPhone for dear life or learning how to stay organized even during the chaotic times. Our recurring segment “It Works for Me” will feature business professionals sharing their secrets on how they get the job done. Next up is our very own Megan Saulsbury of Clarity Quest Marketing.

Company Name: Clarity Quest Marketing

Job Title: PR Consultant

Where do you live? San Jose, CA

Where do you work? San Jose, CA

What is your office environment like? My office is very clean, organized and inspiring.  Rather than creating a vision board, I decorated the wall directly across from my desk with things that inspire me each day.  I love traveling, so I decorated with paintings of places I love traveling to, pictures of myself in each place, as well as inspirational books.  Having each of these things across from me as I’m working is a great motivation to keep working hard and to stay focused on achieving my goals.

In addition, I also have a large bookcase full of inspiring books, from life-enriching topics to inspirational quotes to biographies from business leaders I look up to.  I love having these within reach because I am constantly reading various things that will inspire me every single day to live life to the fullest in the most positive way possible.

What technology do you use at work? I like to keep things simple, so I rely solely on my MacBook Pro.  Rather than carry various electronics with me while I’m on-the-go, I love to throw my Mac in my purse and take off, rather than juggling various expensive electronics.

What technology do you use at home? At home I use my MacBook Pro and iPad.  I love whipping out my iPad at home to casually check emails, as it’s more lightweight than my MacBook.

On a scale of 1 (never) to 10 (always), how often are you connected to your smartphone? Unfortunately, 10 – always!  For so many years I said I would never rely on my phone for things other than making/receiving phone calls and texting.  With technology advancing at such a rapid pace, I now love having everything at my fingertips on my phone!  Although I think it’s very healthy to be disengaged at times, I do love the convenience of having so many things available wherever I am, as long as I have my phone.

What is your favorite organizational tool? My favorite organizational tool has to be my calendar.  I love to be organized and scheduled, however, it’s almost to a fault!  When it comes to business, though, it’s so helpful to view my monthly calendar so I can plan ahead and make sure everything is properly organized in ways that will benefit myself, as well as my clients.

What is the latest website/app/tool you are obsessed with at the moment? I’ve noticed I visit LinkedIn quite often nowadays.  I really value connecting and engaging with others, and try to maintain all forms of relationships as much as possible.  LinkedIn is great because I’m able to connect with people across the world, form relationships and maintain those relationships in a way many never thought possible!

Can you recommend a book? One of my most favorite books is “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” by Eckhart Tolle.  This book really resonated with me, as I’m constantly looking to the future and planning.  This book helped me realize the importance of focusing on the now and living in the present moment, truly appreciating all that is around you.

What’s your best time management tip? Before starting each day, I always make a list of to-do’s for each client.  If the list seems a little overwhelming, I try to guestimate how much time I see each to-do taking, so I’ll create time periods for each task.  It really helps me stay focused and in control of not feeling overwhelmed.

What’s the strangest thing in your office? The strangest thing has to be a large gold metal crab.  Although the gold compliments the color scheme in my office, the crab has nothing to do with anything else in the room!  I chose it, though, because it’s a random item that makes me smile and feel lighthearted.  Often times when I’m working, I can get tense, stressed or overwhelmed, so glancing at the crab is a way to bring me back to a calm, relaxed state.
