Vine: Search, Watch, Follow

By May 15, 2014No Comments

Vine allows users to watch short videos on a loop. Usually these videos are funny and quickly get to the point. They are shared not only on Vine, but also on other forms of social media such as Twitter and Facebook and can be circulated for weeks.  Vine videos can only be 6 seconds long, so video creators are forced to make a quick impact on their viewers. This platform is no longer just a place for a funny one liner, dancing children, and cat videos, but also a place for businesses to showcase their brand and products.

New Search Feature Increases Accessibility

Vine has recently made their website more user friendly by adding a search bar which allows users to quickly find channels or hashtag topics that interest them.  It also provides a great opportunity for brands to create new content and turn Vine users into customers. Brands must create engaging content that will appear in users’ searches, and then guide them to the brand’s page, and from there encourage them to click the follow button.  Another great feature is that you do not have to be a user to search for channels or videos on Vine’s website. This allows brands to promote themselves on Vine with no limits.

HP’s Vine Success

Brands such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) have created engaging content within seconds on Vine.  In the majority of their videos, they use actors to promote features or new products, but in creative ways.  When promoting the user friendly features of Windows 8, HP created a Vine showing a user receiving a cake and a kiss on the cheek from a grandma-like figure dressed in a t-shirt that said “New Windows.”  This video is funny, quickly makes a point and is accessible to all audiences.  Videos like these are memorable after a user leaves the website and help keep HP top of mind when shopping for a computer, tablet, printer or other HP product.

Vine has so much potential for brands looking to make more of an impact on social media.  Consumers will remember the content that engaged them.  Whether it was cute, heartwarming, or funny does not matter as long as it remains on the customer’s mind and allows them to make a positive association when they see your brand.
