What Do People Do After Searching for Your Business Online? The Answer May Surprise You.

By February 17, 2014April 11th, 2019No Comments

With smartphone penetration in the United States at 62% and growing, it’s no surprise that people are using their smartphones to search for the products and services they need. It’s also not a shock that many searches from mobile devices have local intent, meaning people are looking for products and services nearby.

Using Google’s Our Mobile Planet Tool, we’ve created a chart to show the most common actions people take after performing a local search on their mobile device.

51% of people performing a local search from a mobile device go on to visit the physical location of the business. 48% call the business and 47% visit their website or look for directions. Another 29% and 24% go on to make a purchase in-store or online, respectively.

Not only are potential customers using their smartphones for search, they are taking action. If you ever had doubts about the ability of online marketing to drive traffic and sales to your business, you may want to reconsider.

So what should you do to capitalize on mobile local search traffic?

  1. Create a killer mobile website. Your website must be optimized for mobile devices. If people can’t read your site from a smartphone, they will move on to the next. If the site doesn’t render properly on a mobile device, they will buy from your competitor instead. People form judgments about your business after viewing your website for just fractions of a second. You can’t afford to make a bad first impression. We recommend responsive design themes to ensure a consistent look across devices of all sizes.
  2. Craft effective landing pages. Landing page optimization is an often overlooked aspect of web design. Structure, font, content, and even whitespace can all impact the successfulness of landing pages. Our web design experts have years of experience crafting engaging landing pages designed to convert.
  3. Enhance your online local visibility. Google Places and Google+ Local play a huge role in local search visibility, but these aren’t the only factors. If your business isn’t included in these key areas, you’re missing out on tons of valuable search traffic.

We know what it takes to get your business noticed in the search results. We’ve helped countless businesses drive traffic, engagement, and sales using an effective online marketing strategy paired with stellar website design.
