Press Release Wire Service Comparison

By January 29, 2018April 16th, 2019No Comments

Which wire service is best for business press release distribution? Like so many things in technology marketing and healthcare marketing, it depends on many factors. This post includes our review of the top wire services and the best use for each. Note: All pricing in this post reflects our experiences with each service. Pricing depends on options such as geographic distribution, multimedia, and other add-ons.

Business Wire

Business Wire has emerged as our preferred press release wire service vendor for important B2B company news. Their quality and distribution network are top-notch. We have used Business Wire for both domestic and extensive international distribution with success. Their account reps are friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive.

Nasdaq acquired Marketwired and rebranded with the name GlobeNewswire. We primarily used Marketwired a few years ago when press releases were still a big player in search engine optimization. We had great experiences with Marketwired’s account reps and their local and state-wide distribution is cost-effective and got us several great media placements.

While we don’t have much experience with Newswire, a national release does seem quite pricey. However, their allotment of hyperlinks, images, and embedded video are higher than many other vendors. Their analytics tools appear to go beyond the basic press release stats to track engagement and performance across channels. If you’re looking for state-wide reach with more advanced analytics tools, consider one of their cheaper packages.

PR Newswire

When we first started offering public relations services in the early 2000s, PR Newswire was THE wire service and the only one we used. It was the oldest, largest, and most expensive vendor on the market. As more wire service vendors entered the market, we found PR Newswire’s technology to lag behind, not to mention the rapid turnover among account reps.

PRWeb is one of the most well-known online distribution services. They have always been very user-friendly and budget-friendly. The Premium package for $369 includes search engine optimization and distribution to premium news sites and premier outlets. PRWeb no longer charges an additional fee for editorial review. However, videos, attachments, images, and links can be included, but now it is an additional cost. Unlike most other vendors, PRWeb has no word limit and does not charge extra for word counts over 400. PRWeb is not a true wire distribution service, it’s an online release distribution offering. Therefore, it suits smaller companies on a budget.
